Writing comes naturally to me. I grew up loving books. One of my favorite childhood pastimes was curling up in my dad’s deep blue armchair with a good book. Hours passed as I devoured romantic tales of kings and queens, adventures of the wild west, exotic travel stories. The public library in our small California town was tucked into a corner of the Veterans Hall along with various civic offices. Silence was strictly enforced, except for the creaky old wooden floorboards. Thanks to my mom for introducing me to the pleasures of reading.
Classmates always sought my help with term papers. Early on, I possessed a natural talent for turning a jumble of disconnected thoughts into a cohesive piece, correcting grammar and punctuation along the way.
“Please look this over.” Friends and colleagues ask me all the time to critique business drafts, resumes, articles for publication, book proposals, sample chapters – you name it.
My editing abilities are invaluable in my career as a golf travel writer. I've been a professional writer and book author for more than 10 years. My first national article was published in Golf for Women magazine on golf in France. I've traveled all over the world, playing golf and writing about the game and industry leaders, for national and international publications.
I love the literary world and have run several writers organizations. As President of the Bay Area Travel Writers, I grew the organization and implemented a traveling mascot program for San Francisco Bay Area schoolchildren. When I moved to Scottsdale, Arizona, my leadership skills led to the creation of the Southwest Golf Media Association. I recruited the top golf media professionals as Board members and launched SWGMA as a nonprofit organization.
I'm dedicated to giving back to my community. Here are some of the ways I contribute.
- Implemented an ongoing international traveling mascot program to educate San Francisco Bay Area schoolchildren about travel
- Served as committee member for Coaches vs Cancer charity golf tournament
- Assisted in Scottsdale Sister Cities fundraiser for Alamos, Mexico
- Founded SWGMA adopt-a-charity program with Ronald McDonald House
- Solicited auction items for Bay Area Olympic bid celebrity tournament
